Tony Adams has said on Sky Sports Premier League (4:17pm, September 26, 2021) that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has destroyed defender Calum Chambers.

The Arsenal legend has said that Arteta “killed” Chambers when he replaced him during the Gunners’ defeat to Brentford last month.

The 26-year-old right-back started for Arsenal in their 2-0 defeat to Brentford away from home in the Premier League.

Chambers – who can also play as a central defender and joined Arsenal from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £16 million – was substituted in the 81st minute.

Takehiro Tomiyasu moved to Arsenal from Bologna on summer transfer deadline day and now seems to have made the right-back position his own.

Adams said on Sky Sports Premier League (4:17pm, September 26, 2021): “He went with Calum Chambers, killed him at Brentford, to be honest with you, because he pulled him out of the team.”

Struggles ahead for Calum Chambers

Chambers has made two appearances in the Premier League and has played once in the Carabao Cup for Arsenal so far this season.

The defender made eight starts in the Premier League and three starts in the Europa League for the Gunners last season.

Arsenal were superb against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby yesterday.

The Gunners defenders, including Tomiyasu, played well, and it does look like that Chambers will struggle to get regular playing time now.
