Kevin Campbell thinks Tottenham Hotspur should look to appoint Brendan Rodgers as their next coach and not Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany.

The Arsenal legend thinks Brendan Rodgers, 50, who was recently sacked by relegation-threatened Leicester City, would be a ‘really good fit’ for Tottenham.

During the international break, Daniel Levy decided to boot Antonio Conte out of the door, after his rant about the club and its inability to win trophies.

Rather than bringing in a permanent manager straight away, it was Conte’s right-hand man, Cristian Stellini, that was given the keys until the end of the season – it’s fair to say that he hasn’t impressed Tim Sherwood.

Nonetheless, when discussing rumours that Kompany is Tottenham’s number one target, Kevin Campbell suggested they look elsewhere, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports News (13/04/23 at 11:50 am).

“I think he has done a fantastic job at Burnley,” said Campbell. “I think he takes Burnley up and learns his trade – that’s going to be better for Vincent Kompany.

“If he goes to Spurs. It can be all over the place. Better managers than Vincent Kompany have tried and failed there.

“I look at Brendan Rodgers. I think Brendan Rodgers would be a really good fit at Spurs considering the type of squad they have got. They want to develop young players as well. And he’s used to losing stars and maintaining that level of performance as well. I think that might be a really good one.”

RODGERS AND KOMPANY STYLES

One box the duo tick is that they bring the style of football Tottenham fans want back at the club.

Whilst on paper, both Jose Mourinho and Conte, are the real deal, if things aren’t going well, then their defensive style and backfoot approach doesn’t sit well with fans.

So, at a minimum, the next guy through the club’s doors needs to have attacking football on his CV, or else, Levy will become even more unpopular with his supporters.
