Arsenal legend Martin Keown agrees with Tottenham star Danny Rose’s criticism of Gunners players

Tottenham Hotspur outclassed Arsenal at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

Former Arsenal man Martin Keown agreed with Tottenham star Danny Rose’s recent comments on the Gunners players over-celebrating their 4-2 win in the North London Derby earlier this month, when speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail for his Tackle Keown column.

Rose spoke to reporters after Spurs gained revenge on the Gunners on Wednesday night, criticising Unai Emery’s side for their excessive celebrations earlier this month, as quoted by the London Evening Standard:

“Our only motivation was remembering the nonsense that Arsenal posted after the game a few weeks ago. That was our motivation. Players that have only played 10 games for Arsenal were getting ahead of themselves. The cherry on top was silencing them after remembering how they celebrated like they had won the league.”

And Keown agreed with the Tottenham full-back, when speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail:

“I don’t get it. What I want to see is a picture of the players in the dressing room with the Premier League trophy and that’s all. When we beat Tottenham, we never bothered to take photos together. I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way but it just didn’t seem worthy. We had other things on our mind. We were looking at the bigger picture. We only wanted to take photos if we had won a piece of silverware. The only time I can remember taking a photo after a win over Tottenham was when we won the league at White Hart Lane in 2004. That was worthy.”

Keown played in extremely successful teams during his time with Arsenal, winning three Premier League titles as well as three FA Cup winners medals.

And the current crop of players at the Emirates are nowhere near that level yet.

Everyone makes mistakes, and the Arsenal players must learn from their premature celebrations earlier this week, because more often than not they will come back to bite them.

Unai Emery’s side are a decent team, but they must win things first before they start to celebrate in view of the public.
