Leeds United have set their sights on Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, according to Ben Jacobs.
The CBS journalist told GiveMeSport to “keep an eye out” for the Elland Road side targeting the Gunners talent.
Leeds have struggled in attack and, as such, the Whites will likely make a new striker a top priority in summer.
Arsenal’s Balogun has been enjoying an outstanding campaign on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Reims.
This season, the 21-year-old has registered 19 goals and three assists from 32 appearances in all competitions.
Balogun has scored more goals in the French top flight (18) than Lionel Messi (15) and Neymar (13) this season.
He is fourth in Ligue 1’s goalscoring rankings, behind Alexandre Lacazette, Jonathan David and Kylian Mbappe.
According to L’Equipe, via The Mirror, Arsenal are open to letting Balogun move on in the future.
Mikel Arteta is currently well stocked in attack and may be willing to cash in on the 21-year-old.
The Gunners reportedly want €30m (around £27m) for Balogun’s services.
Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “There is so much competition up front and Balogun is in high demand.
“Arsenal would clearly love to either integrate Balogun into the first team squad or loan him out again.
“But it’s crucial to understand the player’s reaction if permanent offers come in.
“Keep an eye on Leeds, and potentially Leicester, although now Brendan Rodgers has gone we’ll have to wait and see this summer.
“First, and most importantly, the Foxes must stay up as well.
“Everton, Brentford, Frankfurt, Villarreal, Milan, Marseille and Borussia Monchengladbach are among a very long list of clubs keeping tabs on Balogun.
“But nothing will happen until Arsenal have pitched their own plan to the player.”
Our view
Every so often, you get players who are absolutely outstanding and have huge potential, but circumstances at their parent club mean they become available.
Balogun could wind up being one of those players this summer. He has been incredible on loan at Reims and will no doubt get even better.
However, Arteta may not be able to guarantee him as much game time as he wants or deserves, which is where the likes of Leeds come in.
Balogun would be an amazing acquisition for the Whites. However, their hopes of landing him probably rest on surviving in the Premier League.
