With the transfer window soon open, Arsenal, Leeds and Barcelona were interested in signing Ajax gem Noussair Mazraoui.
The 24-year-old was set to become a free agent in June as his contract in Amsterdam expired, but now, Mikel Arteta, Jesse Marsch and Xavi must focus their attention elsewhere.
What’s the story?
Well, earlier today, Bayern Munich announced the signing of Mazraoui on a free transfer.
The Morocco international has signed a four-year contract at the Allianz Arena, where he will play under Julian Nagelsmann.
After sealing his move to Munich, the defender said: “Straight from the first discussions with FC Bayern, I had a good feeling and I’m excited about joining one of the biggest clubs in Europe. I’ve chosen this club because I can win the biggest titles here.”
Bayern Munich’s decision to sign the right-back comes after he enjoyed a stunning final campaign with Ajax.
In 34 appearances, Mazraoui scored five goals, while also providing four assists as Ajax won the Eredivisie title.

Barcelona even met with the late Mino Raiola to discuss a deal for the Moroccan, although those talks clearly did not prove to be productive.
Pep Guardiola was also interested in thwarting Leeds and Arsenal’s plans to sign Mazraoui, although it is Bayern Munich who have now won the race.
Arsenal are okay, but Leeds must react
In our view, Mikel Arteta’s right-back department is in good condition.
Takehiro Tomiyasu has been outstanding in that role, while Cedric has proven to be a reliable backup option for the Gunners.
However, Leeds definitely need to strengthen that area.

Marsch only has Luke Ayling in that department, a player who struggled with injuries over the course of the season.
There is also the exciting Cody Drameh, although he does not have much Premier League experience whatsoever, and it would be risky to rely on him.
Hopefully, Leeds can find an alternative to Mazraoui soon.
