A deadline day move for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz failed to pay off and it was a similar story with Paredes.
Arsenal missed out on Leandro Paredes
Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported last week that Arsenal had made a late move to try and sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Paredes.
However, their attempt was rejected because the Argentinian wanted to honour an agreement he had reached with Juventus.
Paredes had seemingly agreed personal terms with Juventus but there was haggling going on between the Turin giants and PSG.
The Argentinian did eventually complete that move, joining Juventus on loan for the season with an option to buy for next summer.
Paredes would have been a combative addition to Arsenal’s midfield, but the former Roma and Empoli man wanted a return to Italy.
So with that decision made, how did Paredes fare on his Juventus debut?
Paredes started for Juventus in their 1-1 draw at Fiorentina and it seems that he didn’t really impress.
Tuttomercatoweb claim that this was ‘not an exciting performance’ from Paredes.
They suggest that Paredes could have done more to chase down Christian Kouame for Fiorentina’s goal on the counter-attack.
Paredes then gave away a penalty for handball, but Luka Jovic’s effort from the spot was tipped onto the post by Mattia Perin.
Paredes was given just a 5/10 rating for that display and will be desperate to improve moving forward, with Arsenal potentially not too devastated to have missed out after that performance.
