Arsenal are reportedly leading the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo, who is expected to be on the move this summer.

According to Voetbal International, the Gunners are best suited to sign the 22-year-old attacker, who this season has been in sensational form for the Dutch giants, with Gakpo bagging an astounding 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.

With Total Football Analysis labelling the winger as the next ‘generational’ talent to come out of the Netherlands, interest is already high in Gakpo as we head into the summer, with Liverpool, Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich also keen on the youngster.

Yet it appears that Arsenal are leading the chase for Gakpo, with Mikel Arteta looking to bring in new attackers this summer. However, the 22-year-old PSV star has enjoyed his best form this season as a left-winger, a position the Gunners are stocked in.

With Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli contesting for the position this season, signing Gakpo could hint at a position change for one of the two Arsenal talents, with many fans eager for the Brazilian winger to play as a striker.

Indeed, with Gakpo potentially the Gunners’ first signing of the summer, signing the Dutch talent will be an interesting decision from Arteta given how badly Arsenal need a natural centre-forward.

With fees ranging from £30m to £42m, Gakpo is going to cost a hefty amount for Arsenal this summer if the north London club moves for the attacker. And whilst the profile of the youngster suits what the Gunners are looking for, this signing could hint at a change to the system.

As mentioned, Smith Rowe and Martinelli already compete for the left-wing position, meaning there’s a chance that either player could be adapted to another role to facilitate the arrival of Gakpo at Arsenal, which could be an exciting transfer for the club.
