News and gossip from Arsenal FC in the past 24 hours.

Arsenal will be even more pleased with the progress of Jack Wilshere after he turned out a man-of-the-match performance in their under-21 match with Everton this afternoon. He played a pivotal role in both of Arsenal’s goals in a 2-1 victory starting the move off for Thomas Eisfeld’s first goal and providing a direct assist for the young German to complete his brace. It came just days after he was included in the match day squad for Arsenal’s disappointing loss to Norwich at Carrow Road so fans will hope to see him featuring for the first team in no time at all.

This has come as music to the ears of another German Per Mertesacker who is relishing the opportunity to play alongside the England international for the first time. Speaking about how much he is enjoying his time in the Premier League he digressed to announce the palpable excitement coursing through the Arsenal dressing room at the imminent return of one of their most promising talents.

Arsenal have been linked with Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar and he has made it clear he won’t be deciding on his future until January at the latest. The 29-year-old has been banging in the goals for Bundesliga side Schalke 04 and his current contract in Gelsenkirchen runs out in the summer. He says he cannot decide on his future amid reported interest from The Gunners and Liverpool.

Arsenal left-back Andre Santos is set to leave the club despite disputing such rumours on Twitter late last week. The Brazilian is being linked with a return to Turkey with Galatasaray preparing a £6 million bid for the 29-year-old. A former Fenerbahce player he would relish the chance to return to a city where he enjoyed such success before his move to The Emirates just 18 months ago as he currently sits well behind Kieran Gibbs in the Arsenal pecking order.

Real Madrid have hinted they may make a move to bring cross-city rivals Radamel Falcao to the Bernabeu. This, according to reports in Spain, has alerted Arsenal to the potential of French international Karim Benzema. The 24-year-old is highly rated by Arsene Wenger who sees the signing of a marquee centre-forward as a massive priority for the club.

And finally despite continued interest from Serie A for Arsenal’s Swiss centre-back Johan Djourou it now appears that Newcastle United are also keen on bringing in the 25-year-old. The international defender has fallen down the pecking order at The Emirates this season and Alan Pardew would like to bring him in to shore up their defensive options.
