Arsenal lost Kevin Betsy over the summer but he has already been sacked as Crawley Town boss after a dismal start to the season.

The Gunners have placed a keen focus on their youth output in recent times.

Per Mertesacker has been earning praise as Arsenal’s Academy boss whilst Jack Wilshere has joined as head coach of the Arsenal Under-18’s.

This is as much about developing coaches as it is about developing players and two young coaches chose to leave Arsenal this past summer.

Arsenal lost Kevin Betsy over the summer

Back in the summer of 2021, Arsenal appeared to land a real coup.

Kevin Betsy came in to coach Arsenal’s Under-23’s having risen through the ranks of the England setup.

Betsy had progressed gradually, managing England’s Under-15’s, then the Under-16’s, Under-17’s and Under-18’s.

One of the highest-rated young coaches in the England setup, Betsy made the move to Arsenal but spent just one year with the Gunners.

Betsy was snapped up over the summer as League Two side Crawley Town made him their new first-team manager.

Betsy also look Dan Micciche to Crawley as his assistant; Micciche coached Arsenal’s Under-15’s between 2018 and 2021 before stepping up to the Arsenal Under-18’s.

Crawley were showing ambition over the summer as cryptocurrency investors WAGMI United took over the club and had grand dreams of rising through the leagues.

Instead, Crawley have endured an absolute nightmare this season with just one win in 12 League Two games, drawing three and losing eight.

Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Grimsby Town has proven to be the end for Betsy as Crawley announced on Sunday that he and Micciche have both been sacked.

This is a dent for two young coaches but more opportunities will be on the horizon.

It’s unclear whether there is room for them to return to Arsenal but you can be sure that Betsy and Micciche will be back coaching somewhere soon.
