Arsenal have made an approach to sign Jorginho – and that may prompt Chelsea into making a last-ditch bid for Moises Caicedo.

That’s according to The Guardian, who claim that Arsenal have made an official approach to sign Jorginho ahead of the transfer deadline.

Arsenal want to add a midfielder before the transfer deadline after learning of Mohamed Elneny’s injury blow.

Jorginho has now emerged as a top target given that Mikel Arteta is understood to be a huge fan of the Italian.

Chelsea may be open to a deal before the deadline given that Jorginho is out of contract this summer and can soon leave for nothing.

The assumption was that Chelsea signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica would free up Jorginho to leave for Arsenal.

Yet Chelsea may yet have another move in mind even after signing Fernandez with midfielder Caicedo wanted from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Chelsea want to beat Arsenal to Moises Caicedo

This is where the knock-on effects of the transfer window are clear for all to see.

Chelsea have been linked with Caicedo throughout the window and, in truth, ever since Graham Potter became Blues boss.

Arsenal have overtaken them in the race in recent days but still haven’t managed to tempt Brighton into selling – even after offering £70million.

That has prompted Arsenal to look at Jorginho, but their interest in the veteran midfielder has seemingly left Chelsea wondering.

The Blues are now thinking that they can move in and secure Caicedo after all, even with Fernandez – who will cost north of £100million – potentially coming in.

Adding Caicedo and Fernandez would give Chelsea their midfield duo for years to come, whilst maybe leaving Arsenal frustrated yet again after the Mykhailo Mudryk fiasco.

Jorginho wouldn’t be the worst move for Arsenal but it certainly isn’t on par with a deal for Caicedo, and seeing him join the Blues would be a bitter pill to swallow on deadline day.
