Arsenal are giving a bigger and bigger role to Jack Wilshere in training, raising suspicions that he could end up signing a short-term deal.

Arsenal ramping up Wilshere role

Football London claim that Wilshere’s involvement in first-team training is ‘increasing more and more’ after each game.

The latest Arsenal training session allegedly saw Wilshere take on a bigger role as Mikel Arteta takes a close look.

Arsenal allowed Wilshere to begin training with them back in September, with Arteta suggesting that a permanent deal wasn’t on the cards.

We’re now into December and Wilshere is still with Arsenal.

The training period just being for fitness surely isn’t the case now, and Wilshere’s increased role may hint towards a deal being struck in January.

Signing Wilshere may actually make sense

Arsenal are set to lose Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

That would leave Granit Xhaka, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles as the only recognised central midfield players.

A short-term deal for Wilshere would just give Arteta additional cover in the middle of the park.

Wilshere isn’t suddenly going to become a mainstay of the Arsenal team, but he can help with numbers during AFCON.

That could be Arteta’s thinking, with Wilshere possibly in line for an Arsenal return more than three years since leaving.
