Arsenal want Ivan Fresneda and may have received a boost with Newcastle United allegedly preferring to sign Lyon right back Malo Gusto.

That’s according to reporter Sacha Tavolieri, who claims that Newcastle have Lyon ace Gusto as their top priority at right back.

A move for Gusto is only expected at the end of the season though with Lyon understandably reluctant to sell.

Newcastle may now need to decide whether they want to move for Fresneda now or wait to make their move for Gusto in a few months.

Tavolieri adds that Arsenal are showing the ‘most concrete’ interest in signing Fresneda from Real Valladolid.

However, their plans also revolve around the summer market with Arsenal seemingly not planning to sign a right back now.

Arsenal should get creative for Ivan Fresneda

The Telegraph claim that Arsenal made their admiration in Fresneda clear last week with Edu ramping up his interest.

That report also noted that Arsenal would ideally sign Fresneda in the summer but maybe the Gunners should get creative.

A deal to sign 18-year-oldFresneda now and leave him on loan at Real Valladolid would be perfect for all involved.

Fresneda can stay at Valladolid and continue to play regularly before joining Arsenal in the summer, just as the Gunners want.

That makes more sense than signing Fresneda now only to leave him kicking his heels, and it avoids the risk of another club signing him.

Newcastle could be that other club with the Magpies understood to be keen.

Spanish football expert Fernando Kallas spoke to Sky Sports News earlier this month (04/01, 12:23pm) and claimed that Valladolid staff were saying their goodbyes to Fresneda ahead of a move to Newcastle United.

The Magpies seem to have cooled off a little since then though and are now keen on Gusto.

Gusto, 19, has started 15 games this season and looks to be a very exciting and very quick right back.

Gusto is wanted by a host of clubs but Newcastle may view him as the long-term heir to Kieran Trippier, opening the door for Arsenal to land Raya.
