Arsenal invincible claims he ‘would love to’ replace Freddie Ljungberg in Arteta’s coaching staff

Arsenal announced last month that club legend Freddie Ljungberg had departed the club in search of new opportunities. The Swede was a part of Unai Emery’s backroom staff since the start of last season while he also took charge of the club on an interim basis after the Spaniard was sacked.

Mikel Arteta and co only had nice things to say about Ljungberg who played an integral part in helping Arsenal’s young players develop and make their mark at the highest level.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah among others have all benefited from Ljungberg’s tutelage, and Arsenal now have to find someone who will fill in that role.

The Gunners brought in Brentford’s head of set-pieces and individual development Andreas Georgson last month. The Swede is expected to take over Ljungberg’s role of helping the young players develop but whether he will be the final addition to Arteta’s coaching staff remains to be seen.

Along with helping the players on the pitch, Ljungberg played a big part in helping the youngsters understand the culture and the values of the club. Many fans have felt that the influence of a former Gunner who has won it all would help instill a winning mentality, something that Arsenal will now potentially miss.

If Arteta shares the same opinion, he might look to bring in a club legend to replace Ljungberg. Thankfully for him, one Arsenal great has expressed his desire to work with the Gunners boss behind the scenes.

Sol Campbell to replace Freddie Ljungberg?

Arsenal legend Sol Campbell spoke with fellow Invincibles Ray Parlour, Robert Pires and Ashley Cole on Marvel Avengers’ YouTube channel about the possibility of returning to the club as a part of Arteta’s backroom staff.

He said: “If something came up, I would [be interested]. I would love to [join the coaching staff] Put my name forward and I’ll be there. Edu, he controls everything.”

Someone like Campbell would certainly bring in a ton of experience and knowledge about the game. Arsenal have a young squad and the former defender’s tutelage could help many become even better in the coming years.

It will be interesting to see if Arteta wants to bring in another coach. If he does, Campbell would be a fantastic option to replace Ljungberg, and Arsenal fans will surely welcome him back with open arms.
