Mikel Arteta has shared that Leandro Trossard picked up ‘a knock’ and he was in ‘some pain’ following Arsenal’s 5-0 win over the MLS All-Stars in Washington.

The 28-year-old started the game, including getting on the scoresheet after 20 minutes following Gabriel Jesus’ quite stunning opener after just five minutes.

Given that this is pre-season, Mikel Arteta was able to ensure there was no risk involved with Leandro Trossard staying on, as he came off and Arteta added that he ‘doesn’t expect it to be anything big’, as he told his press conference.

That will be a relief for Arsenal fans because Trossard has proven to be a very good purchase for the club following his transfer from Brighton in January.

It needs to be remembered that he wasn’t even first-choice. Arsenal were keen on now-Chelsea player, Mykhailo Mudryk. But despite both parties wanting the move, he ended up at Stamford Bridge and Trossard was signed instead.

Well, it has proven to be a blessing in disguise, as Arteta shared an injury update on the versatile forward following that All-Star game.

“Trossard, he got a knock,” said Arteta. “Obviously, we don’t want to take any risks at this stage.

“He had some pain. We will see how he is tomorrow. But I don’t expect it to be anything big.”

Trossard an underrated player

Over two spells, for Brighton and Arsenal, Trossard scored eight Premier League goals and supplied 13 assists last season. If he produces the same ahead of the new campaign, then it will prove to be very useful.

The simple reason is that he isn’t the main man. He will be in and out of the side a lot next season, with Gabriel Martinelli the main man on the left flank and Gabriel Jesus leading the line.

As a result, if the Belgium international can hit those numbers again, then it will be of huge benefit and further proves why he is such an underrated player in this Arsenal side.
