Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Lisandro Martinez’s future amid ongoing links to the Premier League.
The Argentine defender has been the subject of a bid from Arsenal, while it’s also been claimed that Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with the 24-year-old at Manchester United.
However, according to Bailey, Martinez isn’t the Red Devils’ top centre-back target.
Indeed, the reporter states that United would prefer to sign Pau Torres than Martinez, leaving Arsenal in pole position for the Ajax star’s signature.
What’s been said?
Bailey shared what he knows about Martinez, Arsenal and Manchester United.
“I think that United are probably looking at Martinez as a defender, but I’d put Arsenal in pole position for Martinez. I think United may prefer Pau Torres anyway, but the Antony one is different,” Bailey said.

Could end up with neither
Manchester United may be in for both Torres and Martinez, but the reality is that they could end up with neither player.
With all due respect to the Red Devils, Old Trafford isn’t the most alluring destination in Europe at the moment, and with Arsenal in pole position for Martinez and Tottenham keen on Torres, they could miss out on both.
Think about it, not only are Manchester United a rather dysfunctional club right now, but breaking into their backline is a real tough task.
For as bad as Harry Maguire can be, he’s still the club captain, while Raphael Varane is one of the biggest names at the club too.
Torres and Martinez may be better off going to Spurs and Arsenal respectively.
