In contrast to the events at Arsenal right now, the good news just keeps on coming for Bayer Leverkusen.
A 4-0 demolition of Cologne last night ensured Peter Bosz’s entertainers retained their place at the top of the Bundesliga.
And Thursday morning got even better when photos emerged showing Moussa Diaby and Edmond Tapsoba agreeing new, long-term contracts with Germany’s most intoxicating team.
“Both of them are not only extremely talented players with outstanding potential,” sporting director Rudi Voller tells Leverkusen’s website of the commanding centre-back and quicksilver winger.
“Edmond and Moussa are already key players in spite of their young age. And they will get even better in the coming years and be an important element of our Bayer team in the future.”
With Diaby producing another stellar performance in midweek, ripping Cologne apart with a stunning assist and an even better goal, tying down a player PSG must surely regret letting go feels like a massive coup for Leverkusen.
Another Kingsley Coman, anyone?
Le10 Sport, meanwhile, claimed in the summer an Arsenal side crying out for the kind of incision and invention that’s rapidly becoming Diaby’s calling card were planning a £25 million bid for the France U21 star.
A dreadful start to the season – the Gunners’ worst in almost 40 years – continues to shed a harsh light on the lack of forward thrust in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
But with Diaby now under contract until 2025, any plans Arsenal had of renewing their interest will have to be shelved.
They, like PSG, have no choice but to watch on in horror as Diaby steps on the afterburners and fires Leverkusen into title contention.
