What a performance from Nuno Tavares for Arsenal tonight.
The Gunners beat Aston Villa 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium with what was a very convincing win for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Some Arsenal fans might’ve been worried by the fact that Kieran Tierney was left out of the squad due to injury.
Tierney, when fit, has been a brilliant player under Unai Emery and Arteta these past couple of years.
But it looks like Edu has found a top-drawer covering option at left-back in the form of Tavares.
He caused pure chaos among the Villa defence and his 100 mile-an-hour energy really lifted bums off seats at the Emirates.
And even some neutral fans were mightly impressed by him tonight. Here’s what they’re saying:
How much did Arsenal spend on Tavares?
According to Goal, the former Benfica defender set Edu and the North Londoners back only £7 million.
At that price, he was by far one of the more cheaper players to join Arteta’s squad this past summer.
But based on tonight’s showing, there may be nobody better in terms of value.
Arsenal spent more than anyone in Europe during the most recent window but Tavares, at £7 million, could be one hell of a signing.
