Corentin Tolisso’s Bayern Munich career has had its fair share of false dawns.

And, after the World Cup-winning midfielder thrashed a stunning 25-yard volley into the top corner during a 4-0 Champions League thrashing of Atletico Madrid in October, it felt inevitable the good times wouldn’t last.

It’s now four months since his right-footed rocket left Jan Oblak grasping at thin air. And, while the Bayern winning machine just keeps on rolling, Tolisso no longer feels like a key cog in Hansi Flick’s XI.

The former Lyon ace has started just one of Bayern’s past six Bundesliga matches – missing two of them entirely after being found guilty of breaching covid restrictions to get a tattoo. And, even when he has been given the chance to shine, Tolisso has often underwhelmed.

So much so, according to Sport1, the 26-year-old could be sacrificed to make way for his 18-year-old counterpart, Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.

SportBILD, via Bavarian Football Works, meanwhile, claims Bayern are unlikely to extend Tolisso’s contract beyond 2022.

All signs, then, point to a summer departure for a man who’ll be a free agent in little more than a year’s time.

It remains to be seen who’s willing to take a chance on a midfielder who has missed 60 games through injury since moving to Germany.

In fact, you can count on one hand the amount of major European clubs who’ve been linked with Tolisso during the past year or so.

Arsenal were one of the few, via Fussbal Transfers last year.

With Dani Ceballos and Mo Elneny expected to depart during the summer window, Mikel Arteta’s side will be in the market for a classy central midfielder.

And if Tolisso can stay fit there’s little doubt the 23-cap France international would represent an upgrade on almost every other midfielder in Arteta’s squad.

Then again, if his four-year spell at Bayern is anything to go by, fitness and form have been equally elusive.
