According to The Sun, Arsenal have made contact regarding the possibility of signing Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that Manchester United and Chelsea have also made contact to check on the availability of the central defender, while Manchester City want him as well.

Napoli want £80 million as transfer fee for the Senegal international central defender, according to the report.

Good signing for Arsenal?

Koulibaly is one of the best central defenders in the world and is at the top of his powers, and the 29-year-old would be a brilliant signing for the Gunners.

Arsenal have struggled defensively this season, and the defender – described by his former Napoli teammate Pepe Reina as “extraordinary” to TMW in April 2020 – would make them stronger at the back.

Unlikely Arsenal transfer?

However, it is hard to see Koulibaly make the move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window given the reported interest from City, United and Chelsea.

Arsenal are not going to be in the Champions League next season, and that means that the Gunners are unlikely to be willing to cough up £80 million for one player.

Moreover, with David Luiz having signed a new contract with the Gunners, it does give an indication that the North London outfit are not going to spend loads on a central defender this summer.
