Are Arsenal on the lookout for an Edu replacement? It would seem so.
The Gunners are enduring a quite horrific Premier League season at the moment, sitting 15th in the table after losing 2-1 at Everton on Saturday.
In doing so, Arsenal still haven’t won a league game since the 1-0 victory away to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
In short, the North London club’s recruitment hasn’t been brilliant since Edu was appointed as technical director 18 months ago.
Since Raul Sanllehi’s departure in the summer, the club’s former midfielder is now the most powerful figure at the club as far as transfers go.
But overall it just hasn’t been good enough, leading to major pressure on him and head coach Mikel Arteta.
And according to Voetbal Nieuws in the Netherlands, Arsenal have identified Ajax chief Edwin van der Sar as a potential replacement.
The report claims that Van der Sar could leave the Dutch giants and is ‘in the picture’ to possibly join the Emirates Stadium side, should they part company with the Brazilian.
The former Manchester United goalkeeper has overseen a string of brilliant signings for Ajax, including Perr Schuurs – now heavily linked with Liverpool – and David Neres and Nicolas Tagliafico.
He doesn’t have a perfect, flawless record, but he also probably wouldn’t sign every Chelsea reject of Brazilian heritage and therefore Arsenal fans might jump at the chance to get him.
