Arsenal might be given a big boost over Thomas Partey this weekend.
Mikel Arteta’s side begin the defence of their FA Cup title on Saturday with a visit of Newcastle United.
Partey, their £45 million addition in October, hasn’t kicked a ball for Arsenal since the defeat by Tottenham last month which, incidentally, was his comeback game after also going off at half-time in the 3-0 drubbing by Aston Villa earlier in the season.
Injuries haven’t been kind to the 27-year-old since arriving in North London, but the club’s official website have released a very positive update in this regard.
Arsenal.com have revealed that Partey was back in full training and is being assessed by Arteta ahead of facing the Magpies.
A statement read: “Thomas is now back in full training with the squad after recovering from an injury to his left thigh. Thomas will continue to work hard to establish match fitness after being out of action for a month. He will be assessed regarding his availability ahead of Saturday’s match.”
It would be great for Arsenal if he can face the Magpies, but Arteta might keep him in reserve.
Remember, he got injured again in his comeback game, perhaps for being rushed back to action too quickly.
The Emirates Stadium side are bang in form again after winning their last three Premier League games, so keeping the former Atletico man in reserve until he’s 101 percent fit might be the best option.
