Arsenal have made a move for Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as an alternative to David Raya.

Robert Sanchez is emerging as a target for Arsenal in case they can’t finalise the signing of David Raya.

That is according to 90Min, who claim that who claim that Arsenal have made their first move for Sanchez by enquiring about a deal.

It’s stated that Arsenal would ideally like to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, but he will cost around £40million.

Arsenal view that price as too high and are subsequently looking at alternatives such as Sanchez.

Chelsea are also believed to be interested in signing Sanchez as they plot a move for a new goalkeeper.

The Blues now risk missing out with Arsenal showing their interest in the Seagulls stopper.

Arsenal are ready to let Matt Turner leave the club amid interest from Nottingham Forest, meaning they need another stopper to push Aaron Ramsdale.

Sanchez and Raya make sense in terms of their ball-playing abilities but Arsenal won’t want to pay a huge fee for a second-choice stopper.

Who is Arsenal target Robert Sanchez?

Sanchez started out with hometown club Cartegena before moving onto the Levante ranks.

Brighton pounced for Sanchez in 2013, luring him over to England at the age of just 15.

Sanchez has made his way up through the Seagulls ranks but spent two spells out on loan to aid his development.

League Two was his first port of call with Forest Green Rovers before heading into League One with Rochdale.

Sanchez suddenly became Brighton’s first-choice goalkeeper in the 2020-21 season, which resulted in a remarkable rise into the Spanish national team setup.

The giant 6ft 6in stopper has two caps to his name and Graham Potter hailed his ‘amazing’ shot-stopping ability as his rise seemingly showed no signs of slowing down.

That moment did come last season though as Sanchez ended up losing his place to Jason Steele towards the end of the season.

Still a highly-regarded goalkeeper, Sanchez could be ideal competition for Ramsdale and ultimately cheaper than Raya as Arsenal attempt to add a new stopper.
