Arsenal are reportedly one of the clubs in the race to sign Weston McKennie from Juventus – and now have the ideal chance to get him, thanks to Lucas Torreira. The Gunners face competition from Tottenham and Newcastle.

McKennie, 23, has been an important player for Juventus over the last couple of seasons – initially joining on loan in 2020 before signing permanently last summer. It was a deal orchestrated by Fabio Paratici.

But the USA international could end his Juventus stint this summer with a move to English football. Reports say all three Premier League sides are to enter a bidding war for McKennie, with his value set at £34m.

While a reunion with Paratici at Tottenham might be tempting, especially after Spurs secured Champions League football – Arsenal might now have a trump card in the race for McKennie. That, could be, thanks to Torreira.

Arsenal could get McKennie thanks to Torreira: Player-plus-cash deal?

Reports this week indicate that what was deemed a formality for Torreira, is now not so. Talks over the permanent £12million move to current loan side Fiorentina are now ‘incurable’, and he could have to find a new club.

TMW say Juventus are keeping tabs on the situation surrounding Torreira, who scored five goals in 35 for Fiorentina. The clause in the loan was worth just £12million, less than half of the £26million Arsenal spent to sign him.

If talks are indeed over with Fiorentina, and Juventus are intent on signing him – Arsenal can use that to their advantage. Including Torreira in a deal for McKennie, with Juventus keen on the Uruguayan, would suit all parties.

Yes, Juventus would get less cash. But if they can strike a deal in the region of £20million plus Torreira – Arsenal get their man. Juve get a player they want and still receive a big fee while Arsenal save some cash. It suits all.
