Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are ready to make a bid for Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries in the summer of 2023, according to CMW.

Arsenal linked with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Arsenal are interested in signing Dumfries from Inter and are ready to make a move for the Netherlands international, who can also play as a wing-back.

Inter are looking for at least €40 million (£34.49 million), and Arsenal are ready to pay that amount as well as include Takehiro Tomiyasu in a deal.

The Japan international right-back is rated at €25 million (£21.56 million), so the total operation would cost the Gunners €65 million (£56.05 million), according to the report.

Bizarre

Denzel Dumfries has been superb for the Netherlands at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, and we are not surprised that Arsenal have been linked with the Inter Milan wing-back.

Ben White is a centre-back by trade, but the England international is playing at right-back for Arsenal this season.

Tomiyasu is struggling to get into the team, although we have to acknowledged that he has had injury problems.

However, we cannot understand why Arsenal would pay €40 million (£34.49 million) for the £55,000-a-week (SalarySport) Dutchman and also include Tomiyasu in a deal.

It would make sense for the Gunners to pay less than €40 million (£34.49 million) and use Tomiyasu to sweeten the deal.

Why would Arsenal pay more than they need to?

This is the bit in the report that seems perplexing to us, and we do not think that Arsenal will do such a deal.
