The legendary Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal should be regarded as contenders for the Premier League title.
A view at the Gunners’ title hunt so far
In the final game of the 2022/2023 season before the start of the World Cup, the North Londoners fended off a tricky Wolves side by earning a 2-0 victory, courtesy of a well-taken Martin Odegaard brace.

After Manchester City’s shock 2-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday afternoon, Arsenal capitalized in true champions’ fashion by extending their lead at the top of the league table to five points.
For context, the Gunners, who have accumulated 37 points so far are merely three points behind City’s total (40) after 14 matches during the their unforgettable ‘Centurions’ campaign.
While many doubted the club’s chances of sustaining a title hunt, the evidence up until this point shows that this young Arsenal side have showcased all the signs of a truly elite side.
Wenger’s take on Arsenal’s title challenge
The former Arsenal boss said on beIN Sports that he backs his side to contend for the Premier League title, saying, “I think [Arsenal are City’s best challengers]. “
“And after, we don’t know about Liverpool, but they are already 11 points behind and 10 points behind Man City is a big mountain to climb.”
However, the retired coach thinks that while his former employers have a chance of doing the impossible, Pep Guardiola’s side still remain his favourites to win the league.
“Yeah, personally I would put them [Arsenal] just behind City. [Arsenal are] the second best team to have a good chance to win the Premier League, because Man City at some stage will focus highly on the Champions League.”
Recently, even former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent said that the Gunners can win the Premier League.
Ultimately, Mikel Arteta and Co. will consider Arsene Wenger’s backing of them in the title race as a massive compliment as they attempt to bring back the club’s glory days this season.
