Granit Xhaka is in talks to stay at Arsenal after Mikel Arteta personally approved an extended stay at the Emirates Stadium.
That’s according to 90MIn, who claim that Xhaka is keen to stay at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.
It’s stated that initial talks over a new contract have taken place – and that Arteta was given his seal of approval to a deal.
Xhaka is under contract at Arsenal under 2024 but the Gunners do have an option to extend that by a year.
The report claims that there is real hope that a deal can be sorted out soon with all sides happy to strike an agreement.
Xhaka has featured 23 times in the Premier League this season, bagging three goals and five assists.
Playing further forward than he ever did under Arsene Wenger or Unai Emery, Xhaka has been outstanding under Arteta and could be rewarded with a new deal.

Granit Xhaka’s turnaround at Arsenal is incredible
Xhaka’s Arsenal career was thrown into doubt against Crystal Palace way back in October 2019.
The Swiss midfielder was taken off for Bukayo Saka against the Eagles as the pressure mounted on Unai Emery.
What started as ironic cheers from Arsenal fans became loud boors and jeers when the Swiss ace appeared to be going off too slowly.
Xhaka – club captain at the time – cupped his ear to the Arsenal fans as they booed before he went straight down the tunnel.
That appeared to be the end for Xhaka at Arsenal and he had actually agreed terms with Hertha Berlin in January 2020 before Arteta kept him around.
There were even links to Roma in the summer of 2021 but Arsenal chose to keep Xhaka in North London.
Arteta has completely changed Xhaka’s role in the Arsenal team and we are now seeing him become a real attacking threat.
Hailed as a ‘revelation by Ally McCoist on Amazon Prime Video (22min) just last week, Xhaka’s turnaround may now see him secure another new deal at Arsenal.
