Granit Xhaka’s Arsenal future remains unclear as Bayer Leverkusen eye a potential deal to bring him back to Germany this summer.

Leverkusen finished third in the Bundesliga last season, enjoying a fine first campaign under Gerardo Seoane.

Adam Hlozek has already agreed to join but with midfielders like Nadiem Amiri, Charles Aranguiz and Julian Baumgartlinger all linked away this summer, they may need midfield additions.

With that in mind, Leverkusen are now eyeing a move to sign Arsenal midfielder Xhaka.

Granit Xhaka’s Arsenal future remains unclear

The Mirror now report that Leverkusen are looking to make a move for Xhaka this summer.

It’s stated that Arsenal want to free up room for the arrival of Youri Tielemans as their big midfield addition of the summer.

Yet with Mohamed Elneny staying put, it may be that Xhaka needs to be moved on in order to sign Tielemans.

Xhaka, 29, was heavily linked with Roma last summer and continues to be mentioned as a possible signing for Jose Mourinho.

It’s Leverkusen being linked this time though as Xhaka is still highly regarded back in Germany.

Xhaka excelled for Borussia Monchengladbach before leaving for Arsenal back in 2016.

It’s also worth noting that Leverkusen coach Seoane is Swiss and will be more than familiar with his compatriot.

A move to Leverkusen does make some sense then, and few could blame Arsenal or Xhaka for feeling that this is the time for something new.

Tielemans has one year left on his Leicester deal and looks likely to be sold this summer.

Arsenal are very keen to secure him and play him next to Thomas Partey, which could push Xhaka out of the side anyway.

Bringing in cash for Xhaka to then go for Tielemans could be perfect for Arsenal, but it requires Leverkusen to firm up their interest.
