The England international will not be risked on a plastic pitch.
Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck receives treatment after sustaining an injury before being substituted
Arsenal take on Sutton United in the FA Cup tomorrow evening, with the non-league side hoping to meet their contemporaries Lincoln City in the quarter-finals.
The Gunners will certainly not disrespect the non-league side but it would appear to be a great opportunity to give Danny Welbeck a runout in the first-team.
Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck in action with Norwich’s Nathan Redmond
Which is why many an Arsenal fan was baffled to see Welbeck playing for the Arsenal under-23s this afternoon.
The England international lined up against Leicester City’s under-23s in a move that surprised Gunners followers.
However, Welbeck has now confirmed why he was in action.
He made it clear he will not be featuring v Sutton tomorrow, as the club play on a plastic pitch at their Gander Green Lane stadium:
Welbeck returned to action after seven months out with a knee injury last month and even scored twice in Arsenal’s FA Cup win against Southampton.
But playing on a plastic pitch would certainly not be advisable for a player who has struggled with knee problems in the past few months.
Hopefully he will be back in action for the Arsenal first-team again soon.
