Figures at Arsenal reportedly believe that Joao Felix would be the ideal signing for the Gunners this month, with the Atletico Madrid forward being touted as a potential loan addition for the north London club.

According to the Athletic, influential members inside Arsenal think the 23-year-old Portuguese international would be a good signing in January, with Felix expected to leave Atletico following his impressive performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

As per the report, Arsenal are one of three Premier League clubs to contact super-agent Jorge Mendes over Felix, with Atletic demanding a €21m (£18m) loan fee for the former Benfica superstar, who the Spanish giants signed in 2019 for a club-record £113m.

With Arsenal leading the Premier League by seven points, making the right signings in January has the potential to solidify Mikel Arteta’s chances of winning the English top-flight, a first for the club in nearly almost 19 years, with a new attacker firmly on the agenda.

Indeed, Mykhaylo Mudryk has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks. However, it appears that the north London side are exploring the option of adding another forward, with Felix seemingly the player Arteta and his team are interested in bringing to the Emirates Stadium.

Given the finances of such a deal, though, it is unlikely Arsenal will be able to sign both Mudryk and Felix in the same window, especially given that central midfield is another position the north London side are keen to add to in the January market.

Felix’s career has been a strange one despite how young the attacker is, yet for Arsenal, missing out on the forward wouldn’t be the end of the world for the north London side, especially if Arteta manages to sign Mudryk in the coming weeks.

There’s no denying that the Atletico star is a great talent with the potential to become one of the best in the world. However, for Arsenal, the financial cost and the forward’s club form in recent years make it that any deal for the Portuguese forward would be a risky one, and one that the Gunners simply can’t take.
