Paulo Barriera has revealed on Twitter that he has officially left Arsenal.

The renowned physio joined the Gunners two years ago as part of Unai Emery’s backroom staff when he succeeded Arsene Wenger as head coach.

And despite Emery’s sacking earlier this season, Barriera was retained by Arsenal even though many more of the Spaniard’s staff departed with him.

But the Portuguese, who has previously worked at Liverpool, has confirmed on social media that he has now left the North London club.

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira responded to him on Twitter, writing: “Thank you very much for everything, my friend. I wish you the best for your future.”

No details have been made available regarding the circumstances of his departure, i.e who instigated it.

The Mirror reported this week that Arsenal had parted company with 10 part-time scouts responsible for unearthing several of their current academy gems in recent years, such as Bukayo Saka.

This is a cost-cutting measure in response to the global health crisis, but a physiotherapist is an essential staff member and his departure certainly isn’t a case of the Gunners not needing him.
