It would be something if Arsenal won the Premier League title and Granit Xhaka helped Bayer Leverkusen become champions of Germany for the very first time.

After Xabi Alonso’s side thrashed Bayern Munich 3-0 on Saturday to, not only maintain their unbeaten start, but also open up a five-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga, it started to make many believe.

One of the main reasons behind Leverkusen’s surprise success this season has been the form of their new summer signing Granit Xhaka and how he has brought a tough and hard-hitting nature to proceedings.

Ally McCoist thinks he is ‘looking like the real deal’ after his Arsenal exit, as he has gone from controlling the midfield at the Emirates to now doing so at the BayArena, as he told talkSPORT (14/02/24 at 6:45 am).

The 31-year-old has started every league game for Xabi Alonso’s side and is currently playing the best football of his career.

Up until the arrival of Mikel Arteta, many would have had Granit Xhaka’s time at Arsenal as a massive disappointment and one that just wasn’t working.

Everyone remembers that infamous moment against Crystal Palace, but all of that is now in the past because he is proving to be one of the best players in Europe in his position.

That’s why Ally McCoist thinks Arsenal fans will be ‘pleased’ with how things are going for the £22 million star.

Granit Xhaka at Bayer Leverkusen

“Arsenal fans will be pleased for Granit Xhaka,” said McCoist. “He is controlling that midfield and he is looking the real deal.”

Arsenal are missing Granit Xhaka

There’s no doubt that Xhaka’s exit left a hole in the club’s midfield, which many will argue hasn’t been replaced yet.

Kai Havertz has been used there, as was Emile Smith Rowe recently, including Fabio Vieira and others, but none of them are having the consistent impact of Xhaka.

The Switzerland star spent many years in north London struggling to showcase his true worth, yet the minute he produces his best season in the Premier League, he heads for the exit door.

That’s just Arsenal’s luck, but there is every chance that both the player and his former club are champions of their respective countries by the end of the season.
