Arsenal’s young talent made his debut – but at wing-back.

Arsenal fans got a glimpse of the future last night as Reiss Nelson made his first ever start for the club in the Carabao Cup.
17-year-old Nelson has been tearing it up for the under-23s and is regarded as one of the club’s most talented teenagers in years.
He was selected to start in last night’s 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.

However Nelson was not quite given free reign to thrive. The young winger was asked to play at wing-back, meaning his defensive duties prevented him from playing his usual game.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles had a similar problem in the Europa League last week, but Arsene Wenger corrected this at half-time and switched him to midfield.
Nelson had no such reprieve, and fans were left frustrated with their manager’s decision, concerned that he is hampering his early development.

The teenager has huge promise, but his incisive attacking usually seen at academy level was not as strong last night..
Here is a look at how Arsenal fans reacted on Twitter to Nelson playing out of position…
