Former double winning Arsenal defender Lee Dixon raised the ire of Gunners fans before England’s game with Germany after comparing Dele Alli to Mesut Ozil.

Dixon suggested that the Tottenham star has more in his locker than Arsenal’s record signing, who lacks the desire of the England midfielder.

He told ITV and was quoted by The Mirror: “If [Mesut Ozil] had half of what Dele Alli has got, that nasty streak, he would be ten times a better player than he is because he hasn’t got what Dele Alli has.”

Alli went on to produce an impressive display for England in their clash against Germany, but one which was marred by him missing a one on one midway through the first half.

Ozil missed the fixture through injury, and it was his former Arsenal teammate Lukas Podolski who stole the show by putting Germany ahead with a typically ruthless finish.

Prior to the goal Alli had been threatening to take over the game, although could not help England turn their possession into goals.

He had four shots himself, with only one landing on target. Alli was substituted on 71 minutes for Jesse Lingard, completing just 72 per cent of his passes.

His display was largely positive despite his missed chance and unimpressive statistics, but predictably Arsenal fans were outraged at Dixon’s pre-game comments and did not see enough from the England midfielder to have them convinced enough to turn around their own assessment of Alli.

Here is a look at their reaction to Alli’s display and Dixon’s comments…
