Arsenal are in the market for another goalkeeper this summer, but few fans could have expected Marcus Bettinelli to be on the radar.

Bernd Leno’s future isn’t settled, Runar Runarsson just isn’t good enough and Mat Ryan has moved on to Real Sociedad after his loan spell ended.

Arsenal at least need another goalkeeper to offer cover and competition behind Leno, and Bettinelli offers a very cheap option.

The Daily Mail report that Arsenal want to sign Bettinelli on a free transfer after his Fulham contract came to an end last month.

Aston Villa and Chelsea are also thought to be keen, with Bettinelli an appealing option to Premier League clubs thanks to his homegrown status.

The 29-year-old was called up by England in 2018 but has failed to kick on since then and spent last season on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough.

Arsenal fans are now split on Edu’s pursuit of Bettinelli, with some believing that he would be a ‘great’ signing on a free transfer and ‘very smart’ because he is better value than Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale.

Others can’t quite so sure, feeling that Bettinelli is just another Runarsson and simply isn’t good enough to be an Arsenal player.
