Arsenal defender Stephan Lichtsteiner has claimed that he is discussing a new contract with the Gunners.
A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to Stephan Lichtsteiner’s comments in which he has suggested that he is in talks over a new contract with the Gunners.
Lichtsteiner appeared to be a shrewd signing for Unai Emery’s men in the summer having enjoyed a superb career with Juventus where he won several Scudetto crowns and made over 250 appearances for the Old Lady.
However, the Swiss’ time at the Emirates has been a major disappointment, and he has regularly received criticism from the supporters. Nevertheless, it appears that the 35-year-old’s time with the club may not come to an end this summer.
Lichtsteiner has told Neue Zurcher Zeitung that he is in discussions over a new contract with Arsenal, but is determined to secure regular game-time as he looks to get himself to Euro 2020 with Switzerland.
Unsurprisingly, the comments have not gone down with some of the supporters on social media, with plenty hinting that they see no reason why the club should extend his deal.
It would appear to be an odd decision to keep Lichtsteiner around when he has arguably been such an underwhelming signing for Emery’s men. And it would appear that many of the fans will be hoping that the manager cannot provide the full-back with the assurances he is looking for.
