Arsenal lost to runaway league leaders Manchester City on Sunday.
Arsenal headed into the weekend clash against Manchester City knowing a victory was imperative if they wanted to mount a serious title challenge in the months ahead. But unfortunately for the Gunners they fell well short, losing 3-1 and slipping 12 points behind Pep Guardiola’s team.
While many of Arsenal’s players under-performed on the day, one surprise disappointment was defender Sead Kolasinac.
The 24-year-old has been in blistering form for the Gunners since his free transfer in the summer and he looks set to challenge for the club’s Player of the Year award if he continues on his current trajectory.
That said, Kolasinac was well below his best against City and, while the Blues will get the better of most teams they face this season, the Bosnia and Herzegovina will no doubt be disappointed with the shift he put in having been arguably Arsenal’s standout player prior to kick off.
There is still plenty of football to be played, and Arsenal could bemoan some dubious refereeing decisions, but on this evidence Arsene Wenger’s side are a long way off challenging for the league.
