Arsenal appear to be turning a corner under Mikel Arteta, and Kieran Tierney continues to shine – just as he has throughout the season.
The Gunners have endured a difficult campaign, but results are starting to materialise, and Tierney has been a constant performer even when the times were tough.
The left back has been so consistent, turning in fine displays whether used as a left back or left wing back, with his defensive ability just as good as his attacking play.
Tierney picked up an assist in Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Newcastle United, and just over 24 hours later, a bizarre rumour emerged about him.
The Telegraph reported that Napoli are looking to sign Tierney at the end of the season, and may sign Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri on loan to tide them over.
Napoli wanted to sign Tierney from Celtic in 2019, but Arsenal beat them to his signature – and Napoli haven’t yet given up hope of luring him to Italy.
That seems highly unlikely given Tierney’s importance to Arsenal, and Gunners don’t seem worried by the prospect of him leaving – quite the opposite in fact.
Arsenal fans have been taking to Twitter to suggest that the rumours mean one thing, and that’s that Tierney will be signing a new deal in the very near future.
Supporters think that an agent is using Napoli’s name to force Arsenal into given Tierney a new deal, with fans hoping that he signs up for the next 10 years off the back of these rumours.
