Marouane Fellaini will be a free agent when his contract expires at Man United next year – and Arsenal are reportedly waiting in the wings.

Arsenal are facing up to the very real prospect of losing both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez for nothing next summer. And you won’t be surprised to learn that The Gunners’ famously ‘opinionated’ fanbase aren’t too thrilled by identity of a player tipped to come in while the world class depart.

According to The Express, Arsene Wenger has finally realised that he needs some power and physicality in central midfield. But Marouanne Fellaini was probably not the top class talent fans had in mind.

The Belgian battering ram is out of contract in the summer of 2018 and has rejected Manchester United’s most recent offer of an extension. It is understood he wants increased playing time and a more lucrative deal.

Though the natural, immediate reaction is to scoff and locate the nearest ‘fake news’ gif, perhaps Arsenal signing Fellaini would not be the worst idea in the world. After all, he has come a long way since being booed by his own fans at Old Trafford and, after playing a major role in United’s Europa League triumph last season, has four goals in nine games this.

But you didn’t really expect the majority of Arsenal fans to be jumping for joy at the prospect of Fellaini and Granit Xhaka in central midfield did you?
