Arsene Wenger built up a reputation for developing players into greats at Arsenal, but there were a number of players who didn’t quite fulfil their potential.
The likes of Serge Gnabry, Carlos Vela and Donyell Malen had to go in order to thrive, whilst Fran Merida, Denilson, Gilles Sunu and Ryo Miyaichi proved to be flops.
Somewhere in between those two categories sits a player like Joel Campbell, who Arsenal had high hopes for before he was eventually moved on.
The Costa Rican was signed from Saprissa in 2011, but only ever made 40 first-team appearances for Arsenal as he spent most of his time out on loan.
Campbell headed off to Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiacos, Villarreal, Sporting and then Betis again before moving on to Frosinone in 2018.
Now with Club Leon in Mexico, Campbell does seem like a player who maybe deserved more chances at Arsenal – and many fans agree as the attacker posted a tweet about the Gunners last night.

After seeing a compilation of his highlights Arsenal, Campbell posted that he is always a Gunner, and fans sent heartfelt messages in return.
A couple of fans feel that Campbell is better than fellow right-sided, left-footed winger Nicolas Pepe, and believe he deserved more chances at the club after a strong 2015-16 season.
