Arsenal and Middlesbrough played out a goalless draw this weekend.
Arsenal failed to maintain their recent fine form as they could only draw 0-0 with Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The Gunners were flying after their 6-0 victory against Ludogorets in the Championship League last week but they could not pull three points clear of Manchester City as they would have hoped.
Arsenal were missing the suspended Granit Xhaka while Santi Cazorla was out due to an Achilles injury.
That meant Gunners boss Arsene Wenger paired Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin in the centre of the field.
While Arsenal did not concede that had more to do with the superb Petr Cech than anything else, and it seems clear from this match that Elneny and Coquelin are not an effective partnership if the North London club want to challenge and ultimately win silverware this season and beyond.
