Arsenal threw away a 1-0 lead this evening as they ended up losing 2-1 away at North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners have been showing signs of improvement under Mikel Arteta, and were hoping to pile pressure on Jose Mourinho with a win today.

They seized the initiative with a stunning goal as Alexandre Lacazette thumped a long-range drive past Hugo Lloris and into the roof of the net.

Unfortunately for the Gunners, their defensive issues were on show once again as Sead Kolasinac and David Luiz gifted Son Heung-min an equaliser.

The second half was a close fight, but Tottenham nicked in when Toby Alderweireld headed Son’s corner into the net.

There were a number of disappointing displays on show, but one of the positives to emerge from the game was goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The 27-year-old is deputising for the injured Bernd Leno, and made seven saves today to keep Spurs – and notably Harry Kane – at bay time and time again.

Arsenal fans have been taking to Twitter to rave about Martinez, praising him as ‘sensational’, ‘amazing’ and ‘fantastic’.

Some wonder if Leno will get his spot back when he’s fit again because Martinez is so good, hailing him as the one positive from today’s defeat.
