Arsenal still have plenty of work to do in the transfer market, and no new right back could mean Cedric Soares starts the season in Mikel Arteta’s side.

The Gunners have had Hector Bellerin in that area for some time, but he looks set to leave the club in the near future.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles isn’t fancied, meaning Calum Chambers and Cedric appear to be the main contenders to start against Brentford on August 13th as things stand.

Arsenal do still have time to get a right back in before then, but Football.London now claim that Cedric is impressing coaches during pre-season training.

That means Cedric is now in line to start against Brentford in what would be a surprise turnaround for the Portuguese defender.

Cedric, 29, only started eight Premier League games last season, and only played one league game for the club following the March international break.

With Nuno Tavares in as cover at left back, it was hard to see how Cedric would get into the side, but he suddenly has a shot to play at right back.

Arsenal fans aren’t too impressed, taking to Twitter to suggest they don’t get how Cedric can suddenly be seen as first choice at right back when he barely kicked a ball towards the end of the season.

Others think this means Arsenal won’t be signing a new right back, and believe the club simply can’t move forward if they keep making decisions like this.
