Arsenal defender Cedric Soares has new competition with Takehiro Tomiyasu arriving on deadline day – and he took his chance this afternoon.
The Gunners wanted a new right back before the transfer window closed, and left it late to bring in Tomiyasu from Bologna.
With Hector Bellerin heading out to Real Betis, Tomiyasy is now an option at right back alongside Calum Chambers, Cedric and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Cedric needs to impress if he’s going to play, and he enjoyed a great afternoon in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Brentford.
With a host of Arsenal players away on international duty, those left back in North London played against a Brentford side at London Colney.
Arsenal won the game 4-0, and whilst Alexandre Lacazette’s goal didn’t stun many, a brace from Cedric absolutely did.
Cedric lined up at left wing back for Arsenal, and scored twice; one a lob over the advancing goalkeeper and one a header as Arsenal’s official website claim he ‘stole the show’.

Given that Cedric has never scored two goals in a season across the course of the season, him scoring twice in one afternoon really stunned fans.
Some don’t even believe it’s real, stating that they’re ‘not having this’ and that Arsenal must have made it up because it’s just so unbelievable.
Others think Cedric will now start against Norwich City after the international break or even land a new contract having found the net not once but twice today.
