Arsenal struck a deal for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White this summer, but seemingly could have used Eddie Nketiah in the deal.

The Gunners wanted to bring in a big-money centre back following David Luiz’s exit, and settled on White as the man they needed.

White eventually did join, paying a huge £50million to bring the Brighton star to North London after a fine campaign last season.

The defender had a rough debut as Brentford striker Ivan Toney caused him problems, and he missed Sunday’s defeat to Chelsea through illness.

Now, details are emerging about how Arsenal could have worked a discount on the White fee – but turned it down.

The Athletic claim that Brighton wanted to sign striker Eddie Nketiah as part of the deal, with the forward valued at around £20million.

This could have brought the White price down to around £30million, plus a player that could walk away from Arsenal when his contract ends next summer.

Instead, Arsenal rejected that idea and attempted to give Nketiah a new deal. He has rejected those attempts, and wants to leave the Gunners.

It now seems absolutely ridiculous that Arsenal rejected this proposition, and Arsenal fans simply cannot believe that Edu did this.

Some called the situation ‘ridiculous’ and ‘stupid’, believing Arsenal’s decision to reject the idea was ‘awful’.

Others called this a mistake, and with no squad planning in place, they could end up losing Nketiah for next to nothing having had an idea from Brighton on the table.
