Arsenal suffered a major blow in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season as they lost 3-1 away to Liverpool on Saturday evening.

The Reds ran out comfortable winners courtesy of goals from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum, leaving Danny Welbeck to net a consolation strike that, if nothing else, would have done wonders for his own confidence as he continues his return to form and full fitness.

The decision from Arsene Wenger to start Chile international Alexis Sanchez on the bench backfired in spectacular fashion, with the Arsenal boss forced to call on the striker at half-time, at which point the Gunners were already two goals down.

Alex Iwobi did start for Arsenal but the youngster was unable to impact the match as he would have hoped.

The 20-year-old has scored four goals and provided seven assists in 34 matches for Arsenal this season however it was not his day this time round.
