Arsenal fans were not at all impressed by Alex Iwobi’s performance during Nigeria’s World Cup opener.

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Alex Iwobi’s performance during Nigeria’s World Cup opener, with many suggesting that his display highlighted that he is simply not good enough for the Gunners.

Nigeria will be hoping that they can potentially progress past the last 16 for the first time ever this year, but they face a tough task as they sit in a group which also contains Argentina, Iceland and Croatia.

And their task of getting through has been done absolutely no favours by their opening result as Croatia claimed a 2-0 victory in Kaliningrad in what was undoubtedly a very poor game that got nowhere near to living up to expectation.

Iwobi played just over an hour of the contest, but managed to make little contribution to the game. And that led to his display being slated by a number of the Gunners fans on social media.

The attacking midfielder has never seemingly managed to win over the entirety of the supporters during his time in the Arsenal first-team, and many felt that he did poorly in the opening game in Russia, with one fan even jokingly remarking that they did not realise that he was even playing.

Nigeria face an absolutely vital clash on Friday as they face Iceland knowing that defeat will see them eliminated from the competition ahead of their final group game with Argentina.
