Arsenal managed to fend off a late Watford fightback this afternoon, beating the Hornets 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners took an early lead as Craig Dawson brought down Alexandre Lacazette, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from the spot.
Kieran Tierney doubled the lead, before Aubameyang added a third to ultimately condemn Watford to relegation.
Watford did fight back with a Troy Deeney penalty and a close-range finish from Danny Welbeck, but it wasn’t enough for survival.
Whilst Watford face up to life in the Championship, Arsenal finish the season in a rather disappointing eighth place, and must now look to the FA Cup final.
A number of players impressed in today’s win, and full back Ainsley Maitland-Niles was one of them having been given a chance by Mikel Arteta.
Maitland-Niles hasn’t played much under Arteta, but was utilised as a right back against Watford as he looked to put himself in contention for an FA Cup final start.
Fans took to Twitter to praise Maitland-Niles as ‘really good’ today, feeling that he turned in a ‘classy performance’ and should be first-choice right back.
A number of supporters also urged Arsenal to keep Maitland-Niles, seemingly believing that it would be madness to let him go amid claims from Bleacher Report that he may be on the move this summer.
