Arsenal lost once again on Saturday evening, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Everton.

The Gunners went into the game having battled to a 1-1 draw against Southampton in midweek, and were hoping to build on that with a result on Merseyside.

However, they fell behind in the first half, with Rob Holding turning Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header into his own net.

Nicolas Pepe pulled Arsenal level from the spot after Tom Davies brought down Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but Yerry Mina’s header gave Everton all three points.

Arsenal desperately pursued an equaliser but couldn’t find one, meaning Mikel Arteta has lost once again in what is a troubling run of form.

There weren’t many bright spots for Arsenal on the day, but Maitland-Niles did impress in his role as the right wing back at Goodison Park.

The 23-year-old has been patient waiting for his chance in the Arsenal side, but impressed up against Richarlison whilst providing a threat going forward.

Arsenal fans took to Twitter to praise Maitland-Niles, suggesting that his performance was a ‘masterclass’, urging Arteta to make him the first-choice right back ahead of Hector Bellerin.

Others suggested that Maitland-Niles is now one of Arsenal’s best players, and was one of the few to turn in a strong display last night.
