Arsenal loanee made a terrible error as Roma exited the Champions League.
AS Roma V FC Porto – UEFA Champions League Qualifying Play-Off Second Legs
Arsenal loanee Wojciech Szczesny was left red faced after an error of judgement contributed to Roma’s Champions League exit.
The Italian side were handed a tough draw against 2004 winners Porto, and could afford little room for error.
Szczesny could not oblige, running out of his box and being caught in no-mans land, before leaving an empty net behind him.
Szczesny is on his second season long loan at Roma, and had some questionable moments last year, but this will be tough for the Pole to bounce back from, an error in such an important game.
Porto won 3-0, although Szczesny was not the only one to blame, with Roma having Daniele de Rossi and Emerson both sent off by the 50th minute.
Wojciech Szczesny – Arsenal
The goalkeeper left Arsenal because he did not want to sit on the bench behind Petr Cech at Arsenal, but he is doing little to suggest the Gunners made a mistake in bringing in the ex-Chelsea stopper.
There is no great desire to bring Szczesny back, especially after last night’s error.
Here is a look at how Gunners fans reacted on Twitter to his performance…
