Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace this weekend but what did Gunners fans make of Danny Welbeck’s contribution?
It is easy to criticise Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck for his goal-return, but those who do should pay closer attention to his all-round contribution.
It was the same at Manchester United, where the England international was often played out of position not due to his inability up front but because he could be trusted to put in a shift wherever he was asked to play.
Welbeck’s work-rate is fantastic and now Arsenal are benefiting from that just as United once did.
It may have been Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud who scored the goals that gave Arsenal a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday, but Welbeck played a significant role in both and he can hold his head high after a job very well done.
| Passing Accuracy | Dribbles | Duels Won | Interceptions Won | Shots | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Danny Welbeck | 81% | 3 | 5 | 2 | 1 | 77 |
Arsenal’s summer signing had an 81 per cent passing accuracy and he went on three trademark dribbles. He also won five duels and three interceptions and while he did not get on the score-sheet himself, he won a penalty and fired in the shot that ultimately led to the decisive second.
